Who do we work with?
Since our founding in 2006, we’ve completed 154 projects for 119 unique clients, from early-stage start-ups and nonprofits to Fortune 500 firms and government organizations.
Due to our rich diversity in member backgrounds and interests, BEACN feels comfortable tackling nearly any challenge. When selecting projects, we seek clients who are committed to sustainability and social responsibility, and project scopes that are valuable to both our clients and our members.

What does BEACN project work entail?
Projects run on a semesterly basis in the fall and spring. Each project team consists of 5 Associate Consultants led by 2 Project Managers. Project team members are carefully matched with projects based on their interests and skills.

The majority of BEACN’s project work is protected by non-disclosure agreements. We prioritize client confidentiality and only publicly discuss or display past work with explicit approval.

In order to accelerate Dell and Intel’s mission to democratize emissions accounting, BEACN synthesized an extensive research report analyzing the landscape of emissions accounting tools, technologies, and methods. BEACN developed proprietary rubrics to evaluate the reliability, accessibility, cost, and advanced capabilities of said tools and methods. Report is NDA-protected, but you can view a summary of the project below.

BEACN conducted an in-depth analysis of BART's internal diagnostics, reviewed their 2017 Sustainability Action Plan, and performed a comprehensive competitive assessment of other transit agencies. This work culminated in the creation of a template that will guide the development of BART's upcoming 2025 Sustainability Action Plan.

Tasked with assessing the feasibility of repowering select solar plants, BEACN:
Analyzed solar industry efficiency and cost trends.
Developed a comprehensive financial model which calculates the net value of selected solar plants across an exhaustive set of possible repowering scenarios.
Offered data-driven recommendations and solar plant repowering strategy based on financial analysis.

To lay the groundwork for WETA’s plans to electrify the San Francisco Bay Ferry Fleet, BEACN:
Developed an environmental impact and material sourcing summary for existing battery technologies and provided an outlook of future sourcing and impacts.
Researched future marine battery improvements, particularly with respect to cost, energy density, C rate, and cycle life.
Determined a recycle, reuse, or disposal plan for the ferry fleet’s planned battery uptake of the next 10 years.
